A Father, Lost
Memorial Park
Outside of the City of Wiedergeburt
Independent world of New Earth

Despite the fears, the approach to New Earth was uneventful. This didn’t stop Sho Sho Tetsuhara from making sure that everyone knew that the transport was protected. Her fighters moved in formation as the transport made its final approach over the Capital city of Wiedergeburt. Even from this altitude, the scares of occupation could easily be seen. Only a few months ago, the wounds from the occupation still run deep.

As the transport turned and started its approach to Conceptopolis Spaceport, the escorting fighters moved back to allow the dropship to make its landing. Unlike the capital city, the beauty of this spaceport was not lost during the occupation. Conceptopolis Spaceport has been a crown jewel of New Earth's reconstruction that followed the Civil War. A joint venture between NAIS, Quantum Tech, Federated Commonwealth and the New Earth Government. Conceptopolis is located only 59 kilometers south, southwest of the Wiedergeburt.

Designed by the famous Federated Sun's artist and architect Sir Philip Quin Merritt. With its high use of blast resistant glass and massive vaulted ceilings the spaceport is one of the most open and spacious center in the region. The center boasts some of the most advanced tracking and approach controls available to a civilian spaceport. It took nearly ten years to plan and build. Not only does Conceptopolis link New Earth to the rest of the stellar region, six levels of underground transit lines link the entire continent of Sagittarius. This makes Conceptopolis a hub of commerce and travel for the entire world of New Earth.

As the dropship started to make its landing, the rain fell. Across the southern continent of Sagittarius, temperatures slipped as winter rains started to fall. With winter slowly coming, a lone dropship continued its landing at Conceptopolis. Within moments of landing, a VTOL with the word CyberDrone across its body flew in low towards the dropship. This armed VTOL moved without hostilities towards the dropship. It turned and landed next to the larger dropship.

As per plan, the Duchess’ group disembarked the dropship and boarded the VTOL. There, the Duchess’ personal bodyguards are joined by a group of guards from CyberDrone. The only difference between the two groups is the unit patches. Three more units of fighters joined the over-watch of the Duchess group as the VTOL took off from Conceptopolis and headed towards the Capital.

As the VTOL flew, Colonel Jones explained that when the invasion first started the Capital fell within days. If it were not for the Death’s Brigade, that the President of New Earth would have been captured by the Lyrans. It was after that battle that a Lyran snipper found their LZ while the Brigade was fighting to rescue the President and his bodyguard unit. It would be with great regret, the Colonel explained that General Death gave the order to abandoned the Capital in the face of overwhelming odds. As the two units retreated to the Brigade’s LZ, a Lyran snipper laid in waiting.

Colonel Jones’ eyes watered as she told the story of how a lone gun shot rang out. The shot hit the beloved General and cut him down before his own troops. One of the most respected men in New Earth’s history had died in the arms of President McGray. While the snipper escaped the Brigade’s revenge, the Lyran’s 1st Alarion Jaegers wouldn’t. Colonel Jones told how the Brigade made vengeance their first priority on the island of Aries. She turned to Adrian and Erik with a grim smile, “General Death’s murder was well paid in Lyran blood. Yet the debt is far from being paid.”

The rain poured down from darkened skies as six ruined Battlemechs stood silently watch over Memorial Park. For as far as the eye can see, small headstones lined graves of warriors who all gave their lives for New Earth. In the heart of the park stood a bronze statue of two warriors stood facing each other. At the base of the statue, a plaque reads, ‘'With communities and families no longer divided, let us never forget that it is what we have in common that give us the strength to build tomorrow. Let us never forget that we are one people, one community, and one world.’

Today, fifteen LAM’s have joined the six sentries that line the park. The LAM’s belonged to Delta Cluster’s Recon Trinary of Death’s Brigade. With their weapons’ armed, the LAM stood guarding a lone VTOL which had landed in an open area of the park. High above, fighters under the command of Sho Sho Tetsuhara orbited. Despite the freezing rain, one group braved the cold and the rain to respect one grave.

In the center of the park one lone hooded figure walks slowly towards a headstone. This one was no different than any other headstone except for the dedication on the stone. ‘To the man that gave us our independence. We will forever be in your debt.’

Kimiko walked up to the headstone as those who followed her held back. The rain pour washing the make up from her face as she walked forward on weak knees. She dropped down in to the ice cold mud before the headstone and rested her head on the headstone. As the freezing rain washed over her, Kimiko was in great need of comfort.

For Erik, it was a lone figure in the park that caught his eye. The figure managed to remain outside of the zone of protection set up by the LAM’s and thus avoided drawing attention to himself. The figure wore a long thick coat and a hat to protect his head from the rain. There was something familiar about this figure that Erik couldn’t ignore.

Based on how the figure stood next to a large tree, Erik could tell that the man was not armed. Nor did the man show any threat to the group. He simple pretended to honor a headstone, however Erik knew better. The Erik knew that the figure was here for the Duchess’ group.

Welcome to the Bridge

Walking in to the bridge, it is a hive of activity. In the large windows, a massive Earth like world dominates the view. Thanks to the breaking burn that the ship is currently going through, the gravity across the ship is much more manageable. On the edge of one of the viewing windows, a large weapon satellite hung in orbit over the world. Near it two more under construction could be seen. Beyond those three satellite, a large space station could barely be seen. The lights around it, indicated some kind of construction. To what extend the construction was, couldn’t be determined from this distance.

The Japanese crew moved through their tasks with diligence as the voice of New Earth Approach could be heard over a loud speaker. “Kuritan Heavy Two Five Three Five Zero, continue on approach. You are clear to Conceptopolis Spaceport. Be advised you are entering a military control zero. Do not deviate from your proscribed vector.”

The communication officer looked over at Sho Sho Tetsuhara who gave him a nod. The officer then turned back to his console and replied in broken English, “New Earth Approach Control, we understand and will comply with the instructions.”

Kimiko glided through the bridge with the grace of a swan moving across the water. She came to a stop next to Sho Sho Tetsuhara, “I never thought I would be returning. At least not like this.”

“We all must answer the call of duty and follow it no matter where it leads us” Sho Sho Tetsuhara said calmly watching the activity on the bridge closely.

Kimiko turned to Jake and smiled. She motioned for him to follow her towards the large viewing windows. “Do you see that large island?” she said pointing at a large island in the center of a great sea between three major continents. “That is the island of Aires’s” she said with pride.

The island of Aires is a large jungle covered island with a number of large and small islands around it. The island at one point was a massive volcano, that has long burned out. Today, its form is barely visible from under its thick jungle canopy. The islands that surround the Aires are all made up of extinct volcanos of different sizes. Beyond this center ring of islands around Aires, there are five major islands that make up the remaining land masses of the Central Sea of New Earth.

“And the continent to the south east, that is Sagittarius. That is where we are going.” The continent of Sagittarius is a large land mass that made up about half of the southern hemisphere. With its large glacier capped eastern mountain ranges, the mass glistened in the light of Tau Ceti. The western regions of Sagittarius were snow covered gentle slopped mountain. “I grew up on those islands in the north eastern region of Sagittarius.”

One thing that could be said about New Earth was that it was large. Its mass is almost three times the size of Terra. But the one feature that really stands out is the thick sheets of ice and glaciers that reach well past the temperate zones. The northern hemisphere of New Earth, is dominated by thick expanses of white that hides the massive continent under it. It is clear that the northern hemisphere is going through its winter.

Kimiko watched New Earth with pride, “I have always forgotten how beautiful my home really is.”

In the west is a large continent that ran from the southern regions of New Earth up towards the equator. Even from orbit, large expanses of mountains could be seen. Glacier capped mountains dominate the western regions of this continent. The large land masses were separated by vast oceans, where small white dots litter the northern and southern regions of these massive oceans. The north and southern poles were capped with thick ice sheets.

Without thinking, Kimiko leaned in to Jake’s shoulder, “isn’t beautiful” she said softly.

“Sho Sho” the communication officer called out. “The President is expecting the Duchess upon our arrival. We have received word that she is to take a transport from the spaceport to the capital where he will great her at the Presidential Palace. His office has relayed to us the celebration event and they are looking forward to greeting the Duchess home.” He paused than said, “hold on.”

With a nod he continued, “Sho Sho, General Macko has instructed us to deviate from our current course. His orders are for us to land at Aires, at Fort Death’s Army Airfield. He said that he wants to personally greet the daughter of Jake Death home. His office has informed us that we will be greeted in full military fashion.”

Sho Sho Tetsuhara turned to Kimiko, “Duchess, our word was given to the President that you will be greeted by him at the Capital.”

Colonel Johns didn’t hold back her tongue, “Kimiko, if you choose one or the other you will be putting the name of your family in support of that faction.” She then turned her attention to Tetsuhara, “this is the danger that I was speaking of.” She turned back to Kimiko who was now giving her full attention to the situation. “Kimiko you are not prepared for this. Let us keep you in orbit. The Enterprise can be your home for the time being and give yourself some time to take in everything that happened. There is no need to rush in to anything.”

Kimiko turned to Jake with a look in her eyes as if she wanted to say something. Instead she just continued to turn towards the window and New Earth beyond. It was clear that she wasn’t sure what to do in this situation.

(OOC: So here is the closure for Chapter Three. I had to take a slight bit of liberty with last minute actions to make this post possible. Jake will tie the doctor and Nurse up long enough for the party to gain the benefit of this entire post. There will be enough time to shut the feed down before the doctor and nurse returns to this room. Now that the Closure is open, everyone is free to post in this thread.

Once I have a party direction I will open up Chapter Four. I will be looking for a direction for the party so I can set the stage for Chapter Four.

Adventure Points Awards

Erik: 4 AP, plus 1 for leadership
Jake: 4 AP plus 1 for being a hero
Remember that each of you get your Learn equal to in Skill Points.)

The members of the party were escorted back to the medical bay under guard from the dropship security personal from where every they had been prior. As the party regrouped back in the medical bay, it was clear that something larger was at play. The dropship seemed to be at a heightened sense of alert. As the two groups united, Erik had a brief moment to clue everyone on to what was going on and the need for hacking. Everyone knew what was expected of them. Like a well-trained unit, the team leaped in to action once they reached the medical bay.

Upon reaching the medical bay, true to her promise, medical personal had been standing by waiting for Jake. Knowing that the computer in the medical bay was vital to understanding what was going on, Jake fell upon the sword and asked the doctor if he could be treated in privacy. Jake was escorted by the doctor and the nurse to a side treatment room. Jake’s wounds were slightly more serious than he had first given it credit. He required minor surgery to repair the damage to his rib cage. At the end of the treatment, he got a number of stitches to close up the wound. This extended treatment allowed the rest of the party to do what they had to do in the medical bay.

Once Jake and the medical personal had left the room, Erik asked Adrian to hack the security systems of the dropship. While Adrian worked at his task, Erik allowed Suki to listen to the conversation that Alice recorded. She was able to translate that this meeting was unplanned and the visitors were demanding to meet. Suki was able to discover the location of this meeting. Hanger Bay 6 was the information given to Adrian. Armed with this vital intelligence, Adrian was able to hack the security feed from that bay. Within no time, the image of the monitor was of Hanger Bay 6 and an arriving shuttle.

The shuttle arrived with a bit of flare that Jake would have enjoyed watching. Shortly after the shuttle landed and the bay was re-pressurized, Sho Sho Tetsuhara and her father made their way to the shuttle to greet the group of travelers. Three black cloaked figures walked from the rear of the shuttle. Their mannerism and cloaks caused them to be easily mistaken for Comstar, but their cloaks were black instead of white. Unlike Comstar, their hoods were down over their shoulders. Within the group was an older woman roughly the same age as Sho Sho Tetsuhara.

Her hair was neatly hidden behind a well maintained hijab. On the right breast of the cloak bore the unmistakable image of a menacing Grim Reaper. The boney figure was dawned in a traditional black cloak much like her own. His boney hands were wrapped around a sickle made of bone. Above the top of the sickle were two silver diamonds, one on top of another. All of the figures wore the same flag on their left shoulder as the bodyguards had.

To her left was a figure who walked with a hint of a limp. He was dressed similar to the woman next to him with the exception of the hijab. The hood of his cloak was pulled up over his head and the figure wore a skull like mask that covered the lower half of his face. It was clear that the figure was a male. Like the woman next to him, he wore a black cloak that bore the unmistakable image of a Grim Reaper. However, his Grim Reaper was different. It had large black feathery wings and its sickle was much smaller. Above the head of his Grim Reaper was a single silver diamond.

On the other side of the older woman was a much younger female. She too was dressed in a black cloak with a Grim Reaper. However, her Grim Reaper was more demonic in appearance and sitting upon a throne made of bones. Coming from its sickle and flashing around its head were arcs of purple lighting. It didn’t take long for party to realize that the throne was actually a Mech Command Chair. Above the head of this Grim Reaper was a blue upside down triangle with a solid blue strip above the triangle.

As the three walked down from the ramp of the shuttle, they lowered their heads in respect as did Sho Sho Tetsuhara and Major Tetsuhara. It was clear that there was some level of mutual respect between the two groups.

Sho Sho Tetsuhara spoke towards the man with the limp, “it’s good to see you again. How is the air group?”

Before the man could reply, the older woman spoke, “this isn’t a social call Linna. We are here to escort your ship back to Luthien.”

“You have always been quick to anger, Kat” Sho Sho Tetsuhara said with a sigh. “We have not traveled all this way, not to deliver Kimiko home.”

Kat waved her hand as if dismissing the statement while stepping forward, “spare us Linna. This isn’t a mission of mercy. We know about the treaty between President McGray and Coordinator Kurita. We know about the Destroyers. Linna, for the love of Allah, it’s not safe for Kimiko on New Earth.”

“Your ability to gather information will always surprise me” Sho Sho Tetsuhara said softly, “I told them that it would be foolish to hide this treaty from your group. Nonetheless Kat, President McGray needs Kimiko. No one on New Earth is as loved as she is. She could help him keep power out of the hands of the military.”

Anger crossed Kat’s face, “Linna, Kimiko is your niece! She……..”

“She is a member of the House Nobility and a servant of her people” Sho Sho Tetsuhara snapped. “Her place is by her mother’s side and in the appetence of her mother, she must help bring order to her people. That is her duty,” Sho Sho Tetsuhara rebutted.

It was clear that Kat was going to say something, but the opening of a nearby hatch distracted everyone’s attention. As a forth individual walked down the ramp dressed just like the first three. While his Grim Reaper was similar to the younger female, this one had a pair of wings on the throne like mech command couch. The mark above the Grim Reaper was an upside down triangle that was open on the top. It was his fair skin, blond hair and soft blue eyes that drew the attention of the party.

From the side of the camera angle, Kimiko and her bodyguards walked in. As she reached half way and the fourth person reached the bottom of the ramp, Kimiko brightened up as she ran across the deck, “Marcus”

“Short Round!” the man named Marcus said as he rushed out to greet her. He welcomed her in to his arms in a friendly hug.

After being set down, Kimiko looked around, “Where is my mother?” she searched up the ramp with her eyes, “Did she not come?”

Marcus looked at Kimiko as the cloaked group got very serious, “hey, look Short Round….”

Kat walked over to Kimiko and Marcus and rested her hand on Kimiko’s shoulder, “Kimiko, your mother’s air transport was discovered in one hundred meters of water just off the coast. Her body was identified along with nearly a hundred other presumed missing in action.”

Kimiko stepped back in horror. “No……..” she said with terror in her voice, “why???why????” she muttered as the tears started to flow down her face.

Kat waved the others off, “we don’t know all of the facts right now.” Erik knew that this woman named Kat was lying. “All we know is that the civilian transport she was traveling on was shot down sometime during the opening hours of the invasion a year ago. There was a great deal of confusion at the time and event was not recorded. This is why it was assumed that she was taken prisoner by the Lyrans.”

Sho Sho Tetsuhara angrily interjected, “Lyran bastards murdered my sister!”

Kat turned to Sho Sho Tetsuhara, “we don’t know that for a fact.” Again Erik knew that she was lying.

Major Tetsuhara finally spoke up, “how is this possible? We received an All Clear from Kimiko’s mother four months ago. This was the reason why we are on this journey.”

Kat turned to Major Tetsuhara, “that’s impossible. No such message was sent from New Earth.”

While the conversations and anger continued, Kimiko wondered back to her bodyguards. Clearly she was hurt beyond measure. The pain on her face was clear to those watching the monitor. For a young woman, she was being pressed to her limits today.

Kat finally said, “its settled” she said as if she was making the decision herself, “link up with the Enterprise and we will escort Kimiko and the rest of you back to Luthien.”

“NO” Kimiko said defiantly. She turned back to both groups. “Today someone tried to kill me” she said and as the words left Kimiko’s mouth Kat was already shooting a glare at Sho Sho Tetsuhara. “The same man that saved my life, told me that I just can’t runaway. With the death of my mother, I am now the Duchess of New Earth. I don’t have a choice but to serve my people and I can’t do that from Luthien.”

Kimiko was still showing signs of being unsure of her actions. But she still moved forward towards the black cloaked group, “The Brigade swore an oath to my father and mother to serve them. I ask you now, reaffirm that oath to me. Help me bring peace to my world.”

It was Marcus who dropped to his knee first, followed by the younger female. Kat however stood before Kimiko and looked deep in to her eyes. “Know this Kimiko Tetsuhara Death, we cannot win this war for you. What must be done, must be done by you. This is not an easy task and I am not sure you are up for it.”

Kimiko nodded, “A man I hardly knew was willing to give up his life for me. If I go back to Luthien and my world falls in to chaos, what then. Who will be there for my people?” She looked at Kat in the eyes, “my father’s hopes and dreams all rested on New Earth. If the world falls in to civil war again, then my father’s legacy will be of failure.” She shook her head, “if only that, then I must.” There was a kind of tone to Kimiko’s voice that echoed in other great leaders of history. It was something that Erik picked up on.

Kat continued to look in to Kimiko’s eyes, “It is a dangerous path and there are those who want to see you dead.” Kat slowly started to take a knee as did the masked man, “the Brigade will see you through this path. I give you, my word to that.”

Kimiko turned to Sho Sho Tetsuhara, “Please make best speed for New Earth and Conceptopolis Spaceport.” She walked back towards her bodyguards then paused, “There are three empty rooms on my level. I am sure that our visitors have proven that they are not a threat to me. Please move them to more comfortable accommodations.”

Before Sho Sho Tetsuhara could answer, Major Tetsuhara cut her off, “It will be done Duchess.” While it was a clear show of usurping the Sho Sho, she didn’t argue. Sho Sho Tetsuhara turned and walked towards one of the main hatches. Kat rushed forward to catch up, “Linna, we need to talk in private.”

The man named Marcus and the younger female rose and approached, “So when do we meet the Hero, Short Round?” Kimiko laughed as her group walked off the camera angle.

The masked man and Major Tetsuhara stood there for a moment while everyone else left the hanger bay. Finally, the Major Tetsuhara spoke up, “come, I have orders to issue. Then we shall have drinks and speak of past battles.”

The man nodded, “Hai Sensei” within moments the shuttle was left alone in the hanger bay.

I had to take a slight bit of liberty with last minute actions to make this post possible. Jake will tie the doctor and Nurse up long enough for the party to gain the benefit of this entire post. Once I have a party direction I will open up Chapter Four. I will be looking for a direction for the party so I can set the stage for Chapter Four.

(OOC: It is understood that the party has at this time recovered the remaining of their equipment. The party weapons are still MIA, however any non-weapon has returned to its owner)

As the last of the party headed out and the large door closed Alice drew in a deep breath. She didn't know what Eric had planned and wasn't even sure if she wanted to know. She walked over to the desk and took a seat behind it. She allowed her hands to drop below the desk as she started to fidget with her ring again. She couldn't get her mind off the possibility of never seeing him again.

She remembered the first time she saw him, it was in the grand library on Tharkad. He was a librarian assistant with a love for Pre-Star League History and she was on a mission by Professor Angsoft to research from documents about General Kerensky. She couldn't find the book she was looking for and he helped guide her to what she was looking for. It seemed so silly at the time, but it wasn't long before their love grew beyond her wildest imagination. But she knew that Professor Angsoft wouldn't have approved, she was forced to keep the relationship a secret.

Then came the night before their departure for Phoenix Station. He wanted to make sure that she had something to return home for. He offered her his heart and future. She had heard about these things happening in the Inner Sphere. She had thought it silly to allow such feeling to occupy a person, but then it happened to her. Before her logical mind could even consider a protest, her mouth uttered her acceptance. At the time she thought she was going crazy, so she refused to think about it. Now it was something that she couldn't get out of her mind.

She looked up and realized that Eric had said something. She had no clue what he had said and she suddenly felt foolish again. Her eyes widened with surprise at her being distracted. "I am sorry, I was distracted. What were you saying?" she said with an apologetic voice.

As Adrian and Suki headed out to the left of the medical bay, it didn’t take the pair long to wonder their way through the ship in search of a window that they could use to get their measurements. With Alice’s notes in hand and Eric’s instructions, they were determined to find the answer to the million C-Bill question. Adrian and Suki checked a few doors as they continued to work their way left. They found a few locked doors and a few rooms where the sheds were closed and locked. Still, the pair pressed onward in search of a room with a view.
As they continued to walk left, the ship's crew didn't seem to give them any trouble. However it was clear that the pair were not all that welcomed aboard. There was a since of distrust coming from the crew.
There was a profound look of sadness on Suki's face as she was led through the corridors of the ship. The idea of being blind was starting to take its toll on the teen. It was only yesterday that she could see the world around her. Now everything was black, but it was worse than that. Black was a color. In this world she was forced in to, there wasn't even blackness. It was if the world around her was simply gone.

A whole old world…

The sounds of steady beeping echoed across the deep darkness of the unconscious. The endless, pulsating sound of that beeping broke through the world of dreams and summoned the mind back to the world of the living. In the distance, what could almost be described as muffled whispers invaded the darkness. Was the whispers, the product of another world or was it just another dream starting to take effect on the mind. As the mind slowly started to waken from its slumber and in to the world of the living, the whispers started to take clarity. While the whispers were not English, they were enough for the mind to take hold of.

Slowly the eye lids open allowing light to assault the eyes. Never before had the disorientation been so complete. It would take a long painful moment for the room to come in to clarity. But as the disorientation retreated, the room focused in to reality. At first were the white painted metals walls, then slowly forms started to take shape. A closer inspection of the room, noted another key piece of information. Everything was designed to be in both gravity as well as in zero gravity. Desks were securely mounted to the floor as were chairs.

A pair of female nurse dressed in all white were the source of the whispering. The pair were talking quietly by a cabinet when a noise drew their attention back to the medical beds. As both of them turned, it was clear that they were Japanese. The senior nurse spoke to one that was clearly a junior nurse, “Ishi to Shō Shō o tori ni ikimasu.”

On that note, the junior nurse calmly walked for the thick air tight door. She manually unlocked the door and pulled it open. Just beyond the door to the right of the opening was a soldier dressed in a ballistic plate armored suite. On the soldier’s shoulder bore the insignia of a gold shield with the official Kurita crest painted in the center of the shield. The soldiers uniform/armor was painted in flat black paint scheme with gold highlights. On his hip was a Vibrokatana and in his hands at the ready was a black and gold shotgun. The Nurse pleasantly greeted the soldier than repeated the jester to her left.

She took a note book from the table and slowly walked over to the row of beds. Behind her, a large painted picture of Theodore Kurita overlooking the entire Medical Bay. In the background of the painting was the telltale sign of the Draconis Combine Dragon. As the senses slowly came in to focus, the slight vibrating of the beds told all those that they were on some kind of ship. Possibly a Dropship or a Jumpship. Across the beds, the surviving party members laid. While some remained sleeping peacefully, others were just waking up.

The Japanese nurse smiled as she spoke softly, “Watashi wa kankoshi Yui Moto” She moved closer to the beds and carefully lowered herself to be near eye level with those laying on the bed. “Anata ga nihongo o hanasu kudasai?” She paused and calmly waited for someone to answer her.

Deep Space Music
Perimeter of the Gum Nebula
Deep Periphery (250 Light years from boarder of Federated Suns Space)
Date: January 1st, 3161

The Invader Class Jumpship, Kellington hung high above the red dwarf like a specter. Beyond the red dwarf and its system was the massive Gum Nebula. Its bright clouds casts a wide spectrum of colors over the Kellington and penetrated the windows. Its large solar sail extended far below the ship and created a barrier between the ship and the star. The sail spans just over nine hundred meters in diameter. The sail was a vital part of any Jumpship. This massive sail is used to recharge the Kearny-Fuchida Drive or KF Drive which is the heart of the ship and enables it to traverse interstellar space in 30 light-year "jumps". Because the heart of the Kellington is a very fragile system. This massive sail is the best way to slowly charge the drive.

Created from a high strength polymer, a Jump Sail is coated in an extremely efficient photochemical that absorbs visible light, infrared, ultraviolet, and microwave radiation. This radiation is converted into electrical power and fed into the KF drive. One byproduct of the photochemical's efficiency is that all jump sails are invisible to most deep space radar systems.

Since the jump sail must be so large to capture enough energy to fuel the KF Drive, the polymer is very thin and easily torn by micrometeorites, interstellar dust, and rough handling. As a result, the crew of a Kellington takes almost two hours to extend or retrieve the sail. In addition, like all jump sails, the Kellington’s sail has a large hole in the center which allows the exhaust from the JumpShip's fusion engine to pass from the ship without damaging the delicate sail.

What made the Kellington and ships like her so special was her hardpoints. All Jumpships have hardpoints which dropships hook up to. But it is the Kearny-Fuchida Field Conducting (KFFC) Booms that make jump travel possible. Known as the K-F Boom, is described as a magnetic claw which extends the Jumpships K-F field to a Dropship. This allows Jumpships to carry docked Dropships without needing to house them in internal bays. Modern K-F Booms are integrated into the DropShip's docking collar. Essentially the ship with the K-F Boom plugs into the JumpShip's computers so the computer knows to calculate for the DropShip/Station/etc and its contents when making the Jump into Hyperspace.

Just over a kilometer away from the Kellington hung the massive Orion Observatory Station. Like the Kellington, the station had its own sail fully deployed. However this station didn’t have a KF Drive. Instead the sail was used to power the station. Small specks of lights flashed as construction crews placed the last touches on the massive complex. These were the signs that the station was still under construction. The Kellington arrived just over a week ago and deployed the construction teams. It was part of the two year mission that the Kellington was hired to carry out.

The other part of the Kellington’s mission was to deliver two seventy five thousand ton modules to the station and fifty eager scientists. It was assumed that the scientist would be able to travel over to their new home, but flews in the station prevented its occupation. The Schicksal, a Buccaneer Class dropship, was taking on the role of cruise ship for the construction teams and the scientists. However due to the setback tensions were clearly high. Unlike the modules and the Scientists, the Shcicksal would be returning to the Inner Sphere with the Kellington. The Sckicksal would be carrying the construction teams back to the Inner Sphere.

From almost any window aboard the Jumpship or the Sckicksal, the image of the massive Orion Observatory station could easily be seen. Cast in the multicolor spectrum on the Gum Nebula. This close, the Gum Nebula was truly a sight to behold. It is believed that the Gum Nebula is still expanding. It is the remains of a supernova that took place about a million years ago. It contains the smaller and younger Vela Supernova Remnant, along with the Vela Pulsar. The Vela Pulsar acts like a beacon for the Orion Observatory Station as it’s white multi spectrum light illuminates both the station and the Kellington.

Professor Angsoth, the led scientists of the mission hung motionless in the lounge of the Sckicksal. He looked out the window as he took in a sip of his drink. Life in Zero G has its challenges, but it was a small price to be pay for this remarkable opportunity. Unlike the Grav Deck aboard the Kellington, the lounge of the Sckicksal had no gravity. Lost in the image of the station with the nebula as a perfect backdrop, he didn't turn to face the new arrivals to the lounge.

"I am told that the final components will be installed tomorrow, Professor" Captain Elliot Mosconi said as he drifted through the thick doorway. “After the teams sign off on the station, you and your people can travel over there and move in.” Captain Mosconi ensured that the thick door was sealed before drifting over to the Professor. Unlike the science fiction novels, space travel still had its dangers. Because of this, ships were designed to seal themselves off in to section in the event of decompression. Better to loss a few lives then the entire crew. Captain Mosconi drifted next to Professor Angsoth and came to a stop, "I will give you this that is one large station."

"Aye" the old professor said with a nod. "It took five Starlords making seven trips to bring all the pieces here. Once the construction is complete, the observatory will be completely self-sufficient. We designed the station to house over three hundred scientists and support staff." There was a matter of pride in his voice as he spoke. "This time next year, the station will be completely manned and we will be starting our official mission.”

“When I first heard of this mission, I will admit I was a disbeliever. But your vision is…well something else.” Captain Mosconi added.

The Professor shook his head, “no not my vision. This was the vision and dream of my mentor. He had long envisioned this project. His whole life was dedicated to making this a reality. And now I have the honor of seeing his dream become a reality. Soon the secrets of universe will be ours to study. For so many decades and centuries, we drifted across the Inner Sphere never really stopping to listen to what the universe was trying to tell us. Now we will be devoted to just that, listening."

The captain nodded as he pointed to the massive module attached to the Kellington, "so what is with the last module? Why did you have to escort it here?"

Professor Angsoth turned to face the seasoned Jumpship captain, "that is the soul of this project. Along with listening to the sounds of the universe. That module is the ark. A repository of everything we are as a race. Art, science, history, literature and much more. Our victories and our defeats. The things that made us laugh and thigs that made us cry. All of this is stored within the ark’s vast data bases. Once the project is completed, we will send the Ark back to the Inner Sphere like a time capsule. Traveling at sub-light speeds, it will take the Ark over three thousand years to reach home. Once it does, they will be able to open it and see who we were. How we lived. They will see our hopes, our dreams. The Ark will become a window back through time. They will be able to see the mistakes we made and allow history to judge us for those mistakes.” It was common knowledge that the old Professor had deep routed feelings about the era that had become known as the Dark Ages of Humanity.

There was a broad smile on his face as he turned and looked at the last module. “Image Captain, what would it be like to know the inner most thoughts, the hopes and dreams of the first Astronaut, Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin. Twelve thousand years ago, he boarded a rocket ship and blasted in to history. Look at where we are now thanks to his courage. We,” he said turning to face the Captain, “you owe everything you are to him.” Professor Angsoth took another drink from his Zero-G mug, “As I said Captain, we are in the mists of the dream and the dawn of a wondrous experiment."
