Kira walked off on her own towards forge. She wanted to learn how to create her own swords. Maybe this was the quest the duelist had meant for her to do.

Kira had learned here there was no bad effects from using magic like there was in the fallen world. She did wonder if she figured out how to make weapons out of magic if she had to worried about any bad effects though once they returned home.

As Kira approached the forge, she wondered how exactly she suppose to do this. " Hello? Is there someone here who can assist me? " As she turned her head looking around.

Simon was reminded of the powerpuff girls as he walked amongst the friendly streets. His association with the Five whom guard this town like wardens was very pleasant. Simon understood the burden well, though he didn't have folk to protect beyond his own Cabal and a few Spirits near their territory. Colorado Springs was sort of Adopted by the Cabal.

With the effort to reduce crime so efficient, Simon suspected that the order was merely another name for the Operation. Simon could care less. Friendly was on his mind at the moment. Friendly had spared Simon pain, yet on his own word. Only actions could be judged, and in that Friendly did not harm Simon when there was the chance of it with the Hunt.

The Hunt. Simon's mind went back to the Inquisition of the past, and the persecution and blind hatred of those that practiced. Salem as one of the examples in America, but so many to choose from in History. It brought home how restrictive to him the concept of blind worship was. Arms crossed as he leaned against a wall, before sighing. Friendly. He needed to make sure Friendly was alright. Simon pushed off and kept looking.

Rebecca set there on her knees, meditating while the fire crackled near her. The late night mountain air was crisp causing her warm breath to become visible. The moon was in its second crescent and was riding high in the sky. There was something peaceful here in these magically created valleys. When Simon had stated that they were finished here, Rebecca and Kira opted to remain behind. When asked, Rebecca told Richard that it was for personal reasons and she reminded Richard that Simon had suggested the Cabal seek a break and possibly a mini vacation.

Rebecca would make a point to let Richard know that remaining behind was to help Kira in her search for a Spirit familiar. She would ask for Richard to give them two days, before returning for them. She explained to Richard, if there would be any problems they would send up their flare for him to detect. With a smile on her face, she would tell Richard, “look at it like this, you have a chance to spend some valuable ‘Bro Time’ with Simon.”

These two days would be devoted to helping Kira in her search for a familiar. For as long as Rebecca had known Kira, she had talked about having her own familiar. Now that Simon had granted Rebecca her own familiar, Rebecca felt a need to help Kira in her own search. Beyond that, a little sister time for Rebecca and Kira was a great distraction for Rebecca.

Rebecca knew all too well that she needed to get away from everything. Rebecca slowly opened her eyes and glanced over at Kira who was silently sleeping near the fire. Her eyes slowly shifted from a sleeping Kira to the fire pit. She saw Infir within the fire pit, she watched him enjoying local timber. Rebecca wondered if the spirit could tell the difference between fuels. She thought about the distraction but her mind went back to what she was troubling her.

This valuable time would allow Kira and Rebecca some much needed time to talk about ‘family’. The sudden arrival of Fredrick created a new unwanted twist in Rebecca’s life. Rebecca hated her paranoia from time to time. She hated that she felt this sudden sense of doom that came with Fredrick’s arrival. For so long, none of her family beside her father had reached out to her. She paused for a moment, ‘well that’s not completely true’ she thought.

There was that was one time when her cousin Tristin and Vincent had visited her and Kira in collage. Because that weekend was the weekend that Rebecca was attacked while at a party, she nearly forgot about the surprise unannounced visit. Rebecca willed her mind to move from that horrible night. A tear welled up through her eye lids as she fought back the images of that nightmare moment of her life. Rebecca had more important things to focus on. Rebecca wished she could see past her paranoia and understand what is really going on.

Her magical sights had always been a foundation of Rebecca’s understanding of the magical world around her. Before she met Arruin, her magical sights were the upper limit of her magical abilities. She had attempted to experiment with some of her other abilities with less than desirable results. In fact, all her life her magical abilities had been less than desirable even for a novice. She was a laughing stock of her family and those that knew her.

For the majority of her awakened life, Rebecca learned to lean heavily upon her magical sights. Even at its limited abilities, it was all Rebecca had to relate to the supernatural world around her. However, all that changed the very day that Kira and her went to that warehouse and they met Arruin. From that moment, it was like something inside her woke up and she saw the magical world around her in completely different eyes.

Rebecca couldn’t explain it. Her entire world and the way she looked at the world had changed. It was like a door deep within the magical being that was Rebecca had opened. Looking back, before that night Rebecca felt like she was looking upon the magical world through windows instead of actually being a part of it. Now that that door was opened to her, Rebecca walked through. For the first time she felt as if she actually belonged within this magical world. The only way she could explain it, it was as if she had actually experienced her awakening. This feeling of a renewed awakening placed Rebecca on the path that brought face to face with her passion, Fire!

Through her sights, she could feel the fire just within arms’ reach of her. Slowly Rebecca rose to her feet. Rebecca reached out with her emotions as felt the warmth and energy of the nearby fire. She could feel the ‘heartbeat’ of the fire as it reacted to her magical powers. Rebecca slowly moved through her movements as she focused on controlling the fire near her. Rebecca believed that Fire was not only about destruction or power. That it was also rooted deeply in to life itself. Fire was what Rebecca inspired to be like, pure and incorruptible.

As Rebecca moved through her motions, she felt Infir following her. Rebecca wanted nothing more than to be one with Infir, to become pure as fire. As she slowly moved through her motioned Rebecca felt her fears and her paranoia slip from her mind and she was able to feel the fire around her. She couldn’t beat this feeling. It was that sensation of fire which came over her while she slowly moved through her positions. Finally, she was able refocus her mind on the situation at hand.

Rebecca closed her eyes once more as she continued to work through her motions. Her mind started to look deeper in to the situation with Fredrick and his search for a known villain. It was a very troubling situation that had come to pass. For as long as she could remember she had a rough relationship with her older brothers and cousin. She had never been good enough to be considered ‘One of Them.’ For Rebecca she was happy just being part of their world. Sharing their successes and being supportive during their failures.

For Rebecca’s family, this wasn’t good enough for them. Image was everything to them and Rebecca was a blight to that image. It was because of this, Rebecca was treated less than an equal by her brothers. She was sure that they loved her, and this never changed how she saw and loved her brothers. For her, this treatment was nothing more than sibling rivalry. A rivalry that as a child, and later teenager, laughed the behavior off as nothing more than play.

Even though she never measured up, Rebecca did her best to train and reach the level as her brothers. For each and every one of her brothers, magic came easily. Even to critics of the Lone Star Silver Ladder, the Pander brothers were seen as prodigies within their Paths. For Rebecca, each and every spell was a personal struggle. But this struggle gave Rebecca a renewed strength and faith within herself. It was because of this personal inner strength, Rebecca never stopped pushing herself. She never stopped trying to earn her brother’s respect and to have them see her as a part of their world.

In the back of her mind she could hear their laughter as memories of training with them came to mind. She heard Fredric calling out above the shouts of joy, “come on, HIT HER AGAIN!” The memories were of one of her last training sessions with her brothers. She was locked within a Duel Arcane with Tristin, her cousin. For Rebecca, it more like a lesson in taking a beating than a duel. Once again, Rebecca was outmatched and out skilled. There wasn’t even any hope of defending herself against the waves of attacks.

Tristin was the latest member to the Pander family and Rebecca’s cousin. Like Rebecca, Tristin was a Obrimos. Unlike Rebecca, Tristin was a powerful Obrimos with strong skills and vested knowledge in her Arcanas. To Rebecca’s surprise, Tristin was a lot like Richard in many ways. She was a natural spell caster who prided herself on being cleverer than her opponents. And even worse than Richard, Tristin knew how to use a person’s desires against them. She younger than Rebecca and beautiful. Tristin knew how to use her body and appeal to get everything she wanted.

Rebecca was so jealous of Tristin, because Tristin had the respect of Rebecca’s brothers the first week she moved in. Since the very first days that Tristin came to Rebecca’s family, she had managed to capture the hearts and minds of Rebecca’s brothers. This made Rebecca earning their respect even harder. But still, Rebecca never once stopped trying even though she never stood a chance. For with Tristin, it was like someone had opened the door and a black widow crawled in to Rebecca’s family. This creature set her sights on Vincent, the oldest of Rebecca’s brothers and a powerful Mastigos. After winning Vincent’s heart, the rest easily slipped in to line with little effort.

While Rebecca was jealous of Tristin, it became clear that Tristin hated Rebecca. At first Rebecca didn’t really pick up on the hatred. After all, Tristin was family and Rebecca was raised to honor family. More than that, Tristin was Lone Star. And for Rebecca that meant their bonds were stronger than family. As Tristin gained status within the Lone Star as being a ruthless duelist and a Obrimos without match, Rebecca slowly became aware that Tristin wanted Rebecca out of the way.

It came down to a simple request from Tristin to Vincent that turned Rebecca’s world upside down. Behind closed doors, Tristin begged that Rebecca was not fit to be a Pander. The debate between Vincent and Rebecca’s father raged in to the early morning. At the end, Rebecca’s father finally agreed and sent Rebecca off to college. It was the last time Rebecca saw Vincent or Tristin. Well, till the day before that night. The pair came to visit Rebecca at college.

The visit was such a surprise to Rebecca. The three meet in private over lunch. Tristin wanted to apologize for taking their rivalry too far. That she wanted to mend the broken bridges between them. It was music to Rebecca’s ears. They even suggested coming home for longer visits. Tristin offered to help Rebecca better understand her powers and realize her potential. The offer made Rebecca’s day. She was so happy that when Kira suggested them going to that party, Rebecca was more than willing to celebrate. And that was the night that Rebecca was drugged and attacked!

As Rebecca set there next to the lake, her mind calmed. She could feel the fires around her soul beckoning her. She set there in the dirt at the shores of the water. She was dressed in her normal cowgirl outfit. She wore boots, jeans, and a loose fitting flannel shirt. A cowgirl hat topped her appearance. On her hips, she wore Fire and Brimstone proudly displayed for all to see. She proud of her country heritage and didn’t care what others thought of her for it. She held her cross as she offered a silent prayer to the Lord and calmed her mind.

While her eyes were closed, her vision was hardly impeded. She watched everything around her. Without even thinking about it, she created fire in the forms of four little flames just above the ground. The flames hovered around her as she meditated. They were linked to her breathing, growing and shrinking as she drew in breath and let it out. She reached out and felt the flames with her mind. She felt and heard them in her mind. She loved the feeling of the fire around her. The heat, the passion, the purity that comes with it.

But she also knew that she wasn't alone. She felt the other spirits around her. Her senses told her so much. They were watching her as she meditated. She wondered how many of them had a memory of her duel. It was something that truly bothered her. It was the second time she had laid down her life for the party and the third time that she died. Clearly it was the Will of God that she is still here on this world. He had plans for her and soon she felt that those plans would be revealed to her.

The spirits would find Rebecca out on her balcony resting in her bubble filled hot tub. Steam rose up from the water as hear fiery red hair floated around her shoulders. Suds washed over her naked body as she enjoyed the view of the mountains and forest in the distance. There were times that she was self-conscious about being so exposed like this. However, she knew that the house protected her from being spied upon. She also created a spill on the hot tub that counter Scrying. To make sure that no one is Scrying on her, she linked the spell to a Sense the Threads spell. She wanted to make sure that even if someone managed to spy on her, she would know about it.

These steps allowed her to fully let her guard down and for rare occasion, she could truly relax. Her legs floated below the surface of the water as steam rose up around her. It was times like this that Rebecca valued deeply. It gave her time to work out all the thoughts that rage through her mind. She thought about her new role in the Cabal. Pretty much she is the muscle of the group. She wondered why Richard gave her this role and wondered if he really knew what he was doing. Did he realize that one of her most important duties was to keep the peace within the Cabal?

Normally this would place her at odds with anyone that defied his orders. A move that would surely place her at odds with Simon. Something she really wasn’t looking forward to doing. Then again, it also ensured that she would was follow Richard’s orders. She closed her eyes as she smiled, ‘maybe Richard knew what he was doing all along’ she thought of the skillful way she was manipulated in to following his commands without question. He wants her to be responsible for the protection of the Cabal so she will take this role seriously. And if that means keeping Simon in check, “so be it” she uttered.

Rebecca felt as if she was drained from the spell casting of the past few days. Despite this being a norm for her, pressing herself beyond her limits made her more feel line Richard than a crusader for justice that she saw herself as. Still, it was something that had to be done. Her role of protecting the Cabal was now her responsibility and she would take it seriously.

She hoped that her offer to make magical items for the Cabal would help show everyone that preparation was needed for all future conflicts. And that she was accepting this new role as Cabal protector. Beyond this overt act, she wanted to make sure that no one noticed that she was stockpiling her own magical items. Any time there was free mana not being used by the party, she would make a new charge for her own stash. It wasn’t like she was doing this to betray the Cabal, but she also didn’t want to deal with unreasonable questions and arguments about what was just. The Cabal needed protection and she would handle this need personally.

It was something that troubled Rebecca, because if Kira and Richard could do than other mages could also. With this in mind, Rebecca wanted to make sure that the Cabal wasn’t being spied upon by Mages. She knew that it wouldn’t be long before the Consilium would take steps against her Cabal. Being a member of the Lone Star Silver Ladder, Rebecca had a deep rooted mistrust for any Consilium. That much authority would bound to corrupt any Mage, regardless of their age. But even their age becomes a factor, because in Rebecca’s mind you can’t sit on the Consilium that long without owe favors to other powers. It brought her to think about the mages that willingly worked with the Vampires. Did the Consilium condone this kind of behavior?

Back in Texas, mages that willing worked with other supernatural creatures like Vampires were often found hanging from a tall tree. The idea of such kind of justice grained against Rebecca’s own moral compass, but she also knew that something had to be done. It was only a matter of time before her Cabal would have to deal with a corrupt Consilium. To this end, she would start to mass a secret stash of magical items. These items would be focused on defense first. To protect the Cabal from being spied upon by the Consilium.

At the very top of her list was protecting the Cabal’s actions from spying. One thing that got Rebecca’s attention was Kira’s and Richard’s ability to look back in time through the Scrying pool. This was a very real threat to what the Cabal was doing. Mages from across the world could easily spy upon what they were doing without the Cabal knowing about it. It was a very real threat to the Cabal and one that had to be address. She would create a large number of charges on the parties Silk Suits that protected against Scrying, but she would set it up so that Richard could Scry upon the Cabal. If asked, she would speak the truth. But her goal was not to give anyone a reason to ask in the first place.

She also realized that Richard’s own greed and lust for power could be his own undoing. To address this threat to the Cabal, she would mirror her efforts with the protection against enemy mages Scrying with protections against ANYONE Scrying upon the wearer of this magical item. She would make sure that the successes of these items were as much as her abilities would allow. She knew that Richard was a formable mage and one not to be under estimated.

She hated the idea of going behind the Cabal’s back, but at the same time Richard and Simon brought Meatball back to life without even so much as a conversation regarding it before they did it. They went behind her back and without any regard for her own safety, to bring back this monster. She moved her legs slightly in the hot bubble filled water as she continued to think about her future actions. At least her actions were meant to protect the Cabal from a corrupt and dangerous Consilium that would condone and tolerate monsters like Vampires. In that Simon was right, Vampires are vermin who’s only purpose in the world was to be used as target practice.

She remembered the words of the Skin Walker, ‘Vampires are not alive.’ IF they are not alive, then they are not children of God and not deserving of his protection or grace. The idea of Vampires filled her with rage as her mind caused the water to slowly increase in temperature. They were feeding upon God’s children and abominations of what the Lord created. As such simple by existing they were bringing His wrath upon them. The water’s temperature continued to raise as she felt her anger raise. She pictured the innocent falling prey to those monsters. Something that no one knew was that her hot tub had no heating within it. In fact, Rebecca’s own body created the heat that rose the water’s temperature to a point near boiling. Rebecca drew in a deep breath and calmed her mind. She enjoyed the warmth of the water around her.

She rolled her head to the side and watched Infir dancing in the fire place. There was a since of purity to the flame spirit that beckoned Rebecca’s soul. She looked over at her new pistols hanging on a nearby chair she loved the way they looked. Right after they got back to the house, she called the gun deal and asked him to add an addition .50 caliber pistol to the order. She also asked that the second weapon be inscribed with the word ‘Brimstone’ along the barrel. Rebecca smiled as she whispered, “I am Fire and Brimstone.” For the coming weeks, Rebecca will practice with her new pistols to master using both of her new pistols in combat. Simon had suggested that she worked on creating a jab. These two weapons seemed like a really good starting point.

All she needed was to have Simon make the weapons lighter so she didn’t need to be stronger to use them. She would also need Simon to harden her clothing so that it could soak much more damage. She also would enchant the rounds so that they would become magical. She wanted her rounds for Fire and Brimstone to be able to hit with better accuracy. However, that would have to wait till after she took care of the Cabal.

She liked the idea of building a closer relationship with Simon. He had some good ideas, then again he had some really dumb ideas. But then again, so she did. She smiled, and looked forward to working more closely with Simon on future magical items. Sadly, a lot of that would have to wait till he learned how to work magical within her own Arcana. But once that happened, the two of them can start to clean up the evil of the area. And at the top of that list was Mr. Black and his vampires.

Slowly she started to form a plan in her mind. All too often she denied what she really was. How often did she turn a blind eye to the injustice in the world? Maybe Simon was on to something about forming a group of henchmen to take care of their light work. But that just didn’t sit well with her. She couldn’t deny that it was a good idea. But she just liked getting her hands dirty. There was something about looking that villain in the face and snuffing his evil. She wanted to let those who she smited to know that it was the Will of God that brought about their undoing.

Rebecca wanted to be able to bring God’s wrath down upon the evil doers of the world. The Lord’s words echoed in her mind, ‘when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who have wronged.’ It was a passage from Deuteronomy. The passage was one of the favorites of the Lone Star Silver Ladder. One that she was taught for a very young age. She rolled her head back and looked up to the mountains around her. “I shall become the Will of our Father, the Lord on High. I shall bring evil doers to His justice for I am His Fire and Brimstone” she uttered almost as a prayer to the Lord himself.

On that note, Rebecca rose up out of the hot tub and reached over and grabbed her rob. She slid out of the hot tub and walked in to her room. She took a short hot shower and got dressed. She wanted to take a long refreshing swim in the lake. After her shower, she picked up her things and walked out of her home within the house. She quietly moved through the dark house and outside. She wondered about the future of the Cabal and the direction that Richard would take them on. It was one other thing that Simon also got right. The Cabal needed strong leadership. It was the reason why she demanded Richard make a decision and walked away. She walked up to the lake and started to meditate before taking her dip.

Creating Magical Items for the Cabal

Okay, so over the next two and half weeks (one and a half week before the upcoming show and a week after the show) Rebecca will be creating magical items for the Cabal.

So here is how it is going to work. Rebecca will devote a complete day to creating items that a character would like. She will only be limited by the mana available. I only want to use the mana that is available from the house. So this means that I can create five spells/charges per day. Beyond that, I would like the character to chip in the extra mana costs for the spells/charges. Unless otherwise corrected, Rebecca can create a spell with around 200 successes (now this will be with Simon, Kira and Richard’s help, this is an entire Cabal effort).

Here is a couple of examples that could be done.

Rebecca will create five rewind spells for each member of the Cabal. There will be enough successes with each spell to rewind time up to one week.

The costs of these items will costs Rebecca five mana, and Kira five mana.

Because Rebecca guards her spells, she will conceal her spells for an extra cost of mana.

Rebecca will place her spells on to her silk suit.

Another example is this plan that Rebecca will do for herself.

She will create three counterspell spells on her silk suite designed to counter Scrying. Each counter spell will have sixty (60) success to them. That will leave twenty success for the concealment spell. She will conceal her spell charges. This will cost her six mana.

So what I need to know is, what spell items do you want made?

If no one wants items created or she has free time to create them, then Rebecca will make psychic assault charges for anyone that wants them. She will also create more fire bending charges for whom ever whats them. These will have sixty successes each.

Rebecca also has a few special requests for Simon.

She will need to have her silk under suite hardened to resist damage. She would like it to be able to soak 80 points of lethal damage.

She would also like her new .50 pistol made so that she doesn't have to have a STR of 3 to use it.

She also will need some more of your healing injectors

If she has free time and mana available:
Her new .50 cal ammo will be enchanted with burst of speed and control fire. So it appears that they are tracer rounds.

Richard watched from the scrying room has he had often done recently. Rebecca danced with the skin walker spirit in the front yard and so far there wasn't much action. Which, he figured, was a good thing. As he watched what was happening Richard began to prepare in the event that Rebecca didn't survive this even though he had no intention of letting it get that far. The situation want ideal but it wasn't unmanageable either. He had an arcade ready to send either Rebecca or the skin walker somewhere safe. He had his coin with it's psychic assault and he began to extend cast a spell that would let him totally control the skin walker. It would be tough to accomplish something like this with a creature that was as old as the skin walker but if Rebecca could just keep him occupied long enough Richard could build up the success successes he needed. Hell, she had challenged the thing to a 12 hour fight, despite his continued protests. Thankfully, he still had Kira's luck. It would help tremendously here but the spell
would still be a long shot.

Kira waited till everyone had left for their own tasks before she got up from the table leaving her half eaten sandwich and its plate behind. She walked down the hall towards Rebecca’s room. Kira softly knocked on the door and waited. Within moments, Rebecca opened the door and invited Kira in. The greeting was normal for Rebecca, but Kira could tell that Rebecca was troubled.

As Kira walked through the entry way she saw the condition of the living room and knew that there had been a fight. Things were broken and a table was over turned. More than that, Kira noticed a small broken candle stick that Rebecca's father gave her was broken. Kira watched Rebecca slip back down to her knees and continue to clean up the room. Kira walked over to the fireplace and set down on the ledge of the fire place. She watched Rebecca cleaning as she drew in a deep breath. “Um, so you going to tell me what happened?”

Richard sat in his room staring at an empty journal. He though about the leaders of the past and one thing they all had in common was that they kept journals. He figured if it was his time to step up and be a leader he would do the same. He wondered for a while about the people who might read them a 100 years from now, or if anyone would even want to. He allowed his mind to wonder, Mostly to stall having to actually write anything but eventually his minds had run though all the major scenarios and he was left staring at an empty page.

He didn't have much time to get his thoughts on paper. He had called a cabal meeting that would be starting soon. He wrote the date at the top of the page and started his entry below.

'What a strange feeling to finally consider myself a leader of a cabal. Recent events with the werewolves have inspired me to finally abandon my childhood and become a man who will take charge in the coming battles. I only hope that I am able to inspire the others. To convince them follow me into the darkness that has arrived on out doorstep. The lives of my group are all in danger and have been for sometime. However, I do not think I have ever bothered to fully consider the enemies we have made together. We must grow stronger and I must become smarter. Failing to do so will mean death for all of us. Today I hold my first cabal meeting as leader. There is no turning away from my responsibilities now. The cabal needs clearer direction, order, and structure. Today I will have to set ground rules for us to follow. It is different from what I have learned at the Free Council but it seems to be the consensus of everyone else to have a clear alpha. That has fallen to me for now. Lets hope the other will follow me"

Richard closed the book and tucked it under his pillow. Eventually, it might be worth finding a more secure location of the journal but for now it was empty and security was not an issue. He left his room and headed for the kitchen. Everyone else would be there soon.
