What Was Missed (6-2-14)

Well my friends, if you missed this game than you missed some fun Character Background building. Even though it was a low attendance (Two Players plus me) we had a blast. The game store was open till nine this time so we had no issues with game times. And for those who were wondering we did pay homage to the all powerful, all knowing and all forgiving keepers of the game store. Tonights worthy offering was in the form of twelve subway cookies. It was clear that the Gods of the Store were most pleased and once more gave us their blessings. We shall all bow down and pray that we will always have the blessings of the Gods of the Store. For they are wonderful and powerful LOL!

Okay all joking aside, this was a great event. We got to introduce Tluth Dar (Site name: a magical taco) our resident surface Drow Ranger (lvl: 1). Tluth Dar hails from the Drow city state of Seona. Hair to the Throne of Seona, Tluth Dar knows full well the cost of the Great War despite the propaganda that has been spread by Arendale. His family's mistrust of Arendale has been well earned. However his life took an unexpected turn when he was visited by the Seer of Seona. What secrets did she reveal to him? Now Tluth Dar knows that despite all his hatred and mistrust of his fellow Elven-kin, he must find a way to unlock the mysteries of his destiny. Already, the Tome of Destiny, written by the hands of Damon's own wife (a powerful Necromancer), has shown Tluth Dar that his future is not going to be an easy one. The Tome has identified Tluth as the Son of the Divided Clan. And it has already shown him how to locate future allies. One such passage revealed, the Princess Who is Not. Tluth Dar feels that this person from the Tome is none other than Princess Celine. Princess Celine is a Gray Elf from the Kingdom of Adrirawyr. Together the pair has managed to find each other and share critical information.

Princess Celine having just arrived at Esterbrook only the day before Prince Tluth Dar, was able to show the Prince around the grand city of Esterbrook. This massive city is only compared to by its spender and wonder. The Royal Court of Arendale wasted no gold or other gems to build a city that had no equal across all the Realms. Floating water fountains and dazzling show of lights welcomed all visitors to the Royal Seat of the Council of Peace. However for the young Princess, Esterbrook holds a much darker symbol. For it is here that she will be forever wed to a man she does not love. A man three times her age and cares little for her. Her only escape of this fate became a simple side trip to a museum with the dashing Prince Tluth Dar. With her help, Prince Tluth Dar was able to steal the Tome of Destiny from the Museum of the Righteous War, This place was a tribute museum that told the story of how Arendale fought a brave and heroic battle against the hoards of evil vile human invaders. Once more, Princess Celine helped Prince Tluth Dar to reach the most heavily guarded part of Esterbrook and have a private meeting with Muirgen. However, despite her help, Prince Tluth Dar's own mistrust has shown its head as he questioned the Princess of how she is referred to in the Tome of Destiny. Oh the omen that this could become, if the Prince of Seona can not set a side his mistrust and work with those around him to save all of Liasien.

The Tome of Destiny has shown one more ally that must be found. For this ally will bare witness to what the Tome calls the Awakening. These two signs are key to unlocking when the Clouding will begin. This ally has been identified as the Son of Vengeance. Now the pair must identify who he is and lure him to join their ranks. Still the calls from Prince Tluth Dar's past echoes in his mind as does the warnings from the Seer of Seona.

On the 9th of June, we will be kicking off the official game. If you do not fully understand or have read the History of the game world, I urge you to read it. The game will start right at the end of the World History. Please make sure that you read it, it is largely helpful to what is going on.

So guys, this is only but a bit of what you missed. If you would like to know more by all means please contact the players of these two characters and ask them. With backgrounds and characters completed, I will be kicking off the actually campaign on the 9th of June. If you don't have a character ready or you need some help, please contact me at our Game Site. I will gladly help anyone who would like to join our game. However I must make this clear, I will not be doing any work on character creation on the 9th. If need be, I can ask another player to help you out. Also, if you contact me or my wife ahead of time we can be there as much as two hours before our start time to help you finish up.

Okay so, due to a major oversight on my part. The game store closed at six, which was actually the start time of the event. So for everyone that showed up late and found the Colosseum of Comics closed, you have my apologies.

Long before the actual event we heard word that we lost another player. This now set us with two solid players, a new player and one who's attendance is in question.

However, there was some good news! We were able to pick up a new player. We actually picked up a pair of new players. But one might not be regular due to his work schedule.

All in all, this group is slowly building up nicely.

Well, we set around and worked hard on teaching the fundamentals of the game and its history. We did some minor work on character creation and hammered out the general background of the two new characters. They are going to be Drow from Seona. Brothers in fact. One hire to the Throne, the other loyal to their God (Priest that is). Which means this week, I need to find a good God for them to worship.

After the store closed we carefully moved out to TGI Fridays. But not before a quick stop to the bank. After all I needed to repay the Site Administrator for the renewal fee for our Domain name. Yeap, its official. We owe www.orlandogamers.tk

During our dinner chat, more history was talked about. So many stories were told tonight lol.

And just for pointers, TGI Fridays has no idea what a Ceaser Salad is. lol I asked for one and got a regular house salad with Italian dressing lol

All in all, it was not a bad meeting.

I am hoping that everyone will have their characters ready for the return of our glorious Party Leader next Monday!

As always, any questions please ask me.

So Jess and I hit the road right around 2:45pm for the game store. The first call came in right before we left. Two players bowed out of the game. On the road, we lost one more. As we got there, a fourth. Then numbers five and six. Tell you guys, it was like they were dropping like flies. LOL Don't mistake this. I get it that no one planned it and I am not even bothered.

I was able to focus on Jess and her character, which really helped. We were able to hammer out a lot of details and do the much boring paper work that goes with character creation. Because of these turns of events, and to make sure that no one is left out. I am going to make myself available on Sunday to anyone that would like to work on their characters. This can be either online through skype or face to face. However I ask two things. One: Have your concept down. Two: Make sure that you write down all your questions this week. I find that both of these little requests saves allot of time.

Okay so what did you miss? Well you missed out on two big bag of chips. LOL It was buy one get one free from Publixs lol.

Two: OMG the Staff at our game site, Coliseum of Comics at Millenia were one of the most hospitable group of people I have met in a long time. They made a point to make Jess and I feel very welcomed and at home in their store. I wont mention names, but even the poor lovely young Lady who was forced to eat all that spaghetti. The horror guys! THE HORROR. What crime did this young woman do to deserve such a fate! lol Just kidding guys.

Seriously, for all the sadness in the last minute call outs. This group of people really eased the mood. I am also happy to announce that the Staff has agreed to help get the word out about both our game and this site. With luck, we can increase our numbers on both. Of course there is a modest fee that should be offered. A full pie of pizza was talked about. I mean guys, think about it. Don't you want to save this young woman from her spaghetti nightmare!? LOL

Speaking of Pizza, I noticed a few places near there. I am thinking of next week bringing a few pies with me. What does everyone like?

Okay so the next game? Well its not really going to be an official game, as our party leader will be out of town for the next two weeks. So here is what I am offering. Jess and I will be there next Monday between 4:30pm and 5:00pm. If you show, great. We can finish characters. Or run a few small one on one sessions.

These one on ones will be geared to help you build your back story and why you will be on this quest. XP will be awarded during these one on ones.

Can't make it? Its okay. I will accept any reasonable excuse. Death in the family. Family emergency. Cat trapped in a tree. Aliens invading Orlando. Disney realized that their park tickets are too much for the average american to enjoy Walt's dream. Oh wait, that was is simply too far fetched, even for me to accept. lol

For those out of town, contact me directly, I have a means for you to make up the missed XP.

I hope to see you guys there next week. If not, please keep following the boards.

Please fill free to ask about any rule from 2nd Edition or regarding any house rule.

This thread is meant to act as a test station to explore more rule ideas and how they effect the game.

One Such Question was:
Are Racial Class Maximums going to be imposed?

This was a very important rule that truthfully I never realized existed till I researched this question. None of the DM's I learned under used this rule. It is funny that I have played and DM's these rules for years. Hell most likely nearly a decade and never ran a cross this rule before.

The rule was created to balance the world between humans and non-humans for game play. There were actually more than a couple of articles written in dragon magazine about this issue. The rule, as written within the Dungeon Master's Guide states page 14, "Given their (Demihumans) extremely long lifespans, demihumans without limitations would quickly reach levels of power far beyond anything attainable humans. The World would be dominated by these extremely powerful beings to the exclusion of humans."

If you ask me, this statement right here explains the state of Liasien to perfection. Based on this, I am going to make the following change to the Racial Level Restrictions as they are written in the Dungeon Master's Guide pages 14-15.

Restrictions ONLY apply to Demihumans who has Prime Attribute(s) Score(s) less than 16. For Demihumans who has Prime Attribute(s) Score(s) that are 12 -13 you gain one additional level to the level restrictions. For Demihumans who has Prime Attribute(s) Score(s) that are 14 -15, you gain two additional levels to the level restrictions.

Regarding Class Access as per Racial Limits. I am leaving this rule unchanged. That means for example, there will be NO Elf Paladins. If your race is excluded from this class, I am sorry but you will have to find a new class or a new race that fits that class.

If you have further questions please post them here or ask me directly.

Magic of Liasien and YOU!

Long before Liasien was ever a realm, there was magic. The Magic flowed from across the great divide and over the empty void that was Liasien. Then came the Ancient Gods. They were able to bend and work Magic like never seen before or sense. Even the Elder Gods lack the complete control over Magic as the Ancient Gods have. It was the Ancient Gods that created Liasien and all the races. It was said that they used magic to bring the first tribes and clans to Liasien. Other races like the dark deep dwelling races were created by the darkest of magics. Magic flowed from the Ancients as they bent it to do their will. However when the Ancient Gods were cast out from Liasien by the Elder Gods, magic for the first time was allowed to flow freely over Liasien. Today Magic touches every part of a person's life. It is written in the Scrolls of the Elders, "to be without magic is to be without life."

All Characters regardless of level, race or class has access to some degree of magic.

The following rules will explain this degree:

All Classes:
Each Character gets a number equal to their Intelligence Score in Cantrips.

Cantrips are described as small, useful tricks that every one knows from first early childhood, and can perform at-will.

With a cantrip you can bring a salt shaker (or a key) to your hand. The travel would be slow and noticeable if someone were to look. You can light a candle or torch, though this is a very small fire. While it can ignite combustibles, some harder items will take longer to ignite or not at all with this cantrip.

You can make sounds or blow some dust off of a book. Send a small shower of sparkles over a birthday boy/girl.

The basic rule of Cantrips is that they will not cause a target to make any rolls. Normally they will not affect combat. You them wisely and they can be useful.

All Class (Expect Wizards Groups and Priests Groups):
Each 4 Levels starting at level 4, each character gains the ability to learn spell from either the Wizard or the Priest magical spells groups. Once you selected your group you CAN NOT change it and you can only select new spells from that group. These spells are to be treated like normal spells and are cast at half the character's current level. Remember normal study and prayer times apply. Please take note that Intelligence and Wisdom limitations will apply.

Under this rule, you may cast one per every four levels.

Wizards Groups and Priests Groups (Only):
Each Wizard or Priest can achieve tremendous power as they gain levels and knowledge. As a reflection of this, Study times and Prayer times that is normally a tedious task is made much easily on Liasien. These times are cut in half!

Under this rule, the number of spells that can cast per day is increased by 1.5. As is range and duration are also increased by 1.5.

Any Questions, Comments or Concerns?
"bonus spells for wizards with high intelligence?"

To Answer this question, I have dug deep in to the question regarding Bonus Spells for Wizards that would mirror those within the rules for Priests for a high wisdom score. I regret to answer, that bonus spells are listed only for the Priest Group classes.

It is expressly said that Priests and only Priest benefit from this. As I continued to dig, I found an article in Dragon Magazine regarding this. The authors of the Players Hand Book gave the Wizards a massive number of spells that they had access to. However, the Priests however were limited in their spells by their gods. This Bonus Spell was meant to act as a balance between the two groups.

The following is only player knowledge and should only be used as such.

So I have been faced with the task of creating a pantheon for this game. If you have read the world history, you would see that the pantheons of this world are very different than else where in other games. This difference doesn't change how Clerics operate, just how the Pantheons operate within the game world of Liasien.

The Ancient Gods were all pretty much insane. Even the good gods. They ranged in races and desired only to watch the Mortals clash with each other. The wielded the powers of magic to their very limits and beyond. It is said that they even created Liasien from nothing.

The Elder Gods were born via the mating of the Ancient Gods and mortals. While their races were diverse there is only one race that were not among the Elder Gods. Those humans that were like the rest of the Elder Gods sided with the Ancient Gods and as such were cast from Liasien. For hundreds of years, there were no Human Elder Gods. That changed with the raise of Damon the Great. He is the only Human that is worshiped as a god. His place within the pantheon is not recognized by all the realms. Though some realms simply accept that 'misguided' humans worship, others have outlawed his worship all together.

So what does this mean to you?

Well I am working on Damon the Great as far as a God goes.

But if you wish to worship a different god, that is fine. Here is what you can do. There were hundreds of Elder Gods. All of them Non-Human.

If you have a God in mind or one you like from another realm go head and post the details here. Make sure you give me as much information on this God as possible. If this god is from a book, please include the name of the book and page number(s). The more information the better for me.

So your God is a human. No problem as long as you are ready to accept his rapid change to a non-human race. I will even let you help to figure out what race the God should be.

Home Grown Gods from your own Worlds. Still not a problem but more work for you. Again, please make sure that you post every detail you have on him. I will need to know Holidays and sacrifices. Also remember he has to be non-human.

The Involvement by the Gods:
Normally in AD&D games that I have run in the past, the involvement in Gods varied widely. However, in this game the Gods will be largely hands off for nearly all the game. So don't expect your God to come to your aid during your time of need. The Elder Gods have long ago abandoned Liasien to its own devices. Why you ask, that is a secret to this game. And something that the characters will have to find out about.
