Cabal Meeting

Richard sat in his room staring at an empty journal. He though about the leaders of the past and one thing they all had in common was that they kept journals. He figured if it was his time to step up and be a leader he would do the same. He wondered for a while about the people who might read them a 100 years from now, or if anyone would even want to. He allowed his mind to wonder, Mostly to stall having to actually write anything but eventually his minds had run though all the major scenarios and he was left staring at an empty page.

He didn't have much time to get his thoughts on paper. He had called a cabal meeting that would be starting soon. He wrote the date at the top of the page and started his entry below.

'What a strange feeling to finally consider myself a leader of a cabal. Recent events with the werewolves have inspired me to finally abandon my childhood and become a man who will take charge in the coming battles. I only hope that I am able to inspire the others. To convince them follow me into the darkness that has arrived on out doorstep. The lives of my group are all in danger and have been for sometime. However, I do not think I have ever bothered to fully consider the enemies we have made together. We must grow stronger and I must become smarter. Failing to do so will mean death for all of us. Today I hold my first cabal meeting as leader. There is no turning away from my responsibilities now. The cabal needs clearer direction, order, and structure. Today I will have to set ground rules for us to follow. It is different from what I have learned at the Free Council but it seems to be the consensus of everyone else to have a clear alpha. That has fallen to me for now. Lets hope the other will follow me"

Richard closed the book and tucked it under his pillow. Eventually, it might be worth finding a more secure location of the journal but for now it was empty and security was not an issue. He left his room and headed for the kitchen. Everyone else would be there soon.

Kira set in the kitchen with a half-eaten sandwich before her. Even though she was sitting here in the kitchen, her mind was miles away. Her plans with the werewolves went pretty much as she had expected. What surprised her was how the rest of the cabal had taken to Rebecca’s actions. She picked up her fork and pushed pieces of her sandwich around with it.

Rebecca was actually easy to understand and even easier to predict. She had never really shown any skill in dealing with social situations. It was the reason why Kira had been the voice and most of the time, the face of the show. She was a bit confused why Richard had chosen Rebecca to take the cunning part of the test. Rebecca was more the power fighter of the group. Kira smiled as the voice of some actor filled her mind, ‘Hulk smash’. Shaking off the memory, Kira just figured that Richard had a larger plan he was working on. Despite Rebecca’s mistake, the encounter with the werewolves was overly successful. And even thanks to Rebecca’s mistake, the Cabal had a chance to really bond with their new werewolf allies. She paused for a moment and came to a conclusion that Richard was far more manipulative than she gave him credit for.

By forcing Rebecca in to a situation that was far beyond her social skill, he must have known that she would mess it up. But she wouldn’t over all let the cabal down. In doing so, this would drag out the encounter allowing him and Simon to warm up to the werewolves. It was clear that both Simon and Richard were far better in social situations than Rebecca was. By removing her from the encounter the way Richard did, he ensured that the encounter would be successful.

Kira smiled and mumbled to herself, “Richard, you are one cunning man.” She lifted her head as she heard someone walking in to the kitchen. It was Richard with a determined look on his face. There was something different about him. He seemed more sure of himself. She couldn’t be sure but she wondered if he had used a spell to increase his resolve or had their run in with the werewolves actually inspired him. “Time for our meeting,” Kira said softly.

Rebecca took her time before rejoining Richard and the rest of the Cabal. She took a short stop at her bathroom to check out her face. She was right, she had a nasty black eye and a bloody nose. She didn’t mind the pain so much, she just hoped that it was worth it. Rebecca cleaned herself up a bit. She touched up her eye with a bit of makeup. A pair of sunglasses concealed her black rather nicely. Once she was sure the black eye was concealed, she left her room for the kitchen.

Rebecca followed Richard in to the kitchen, “Are we ready for the Cabal meeting?" She looked around and she noticed that Simon and Stinky weren't in the kitchen yet. "Anyone know where Simon and Stinky are?”

Simon comes in with Solaire and quietly sits down, folding fingertips. Notices the bloody nose of Rebecca and the black eye. Simon nodded to himself and then looked around quietly.

Rebecca watched Simon walk in and take a sit with Solaire standing behind him. She was grateful that she had the forethought to wash up riot to coming to the meeting. After all standing there with a bloody nose would only draw unwanted attention to something that wasn't anyone else's business.

While she was sure the black eye might be detectable. It wouldn't stand out from under her sunglasses. After all, Richard isn't that strong to cause the kind of damage that she couldn't conceal.

She leaned against the wall and shifted her gaze over to Richard, "well I guess we can take notes for stinky. What do you got for us?" She said speaking to Richard.

Richard looked around the room at everyone. He watched Simon looking at Rebecca, checking out her bruises. Rebecca pretended she didn't notice him looking. He nose was still pretty banged up but she was trying to conceal it. "First thing I want to do is discuss house rules. No more casting spell on each other unless they are for a good reason. Pranks, attacks, ect will no longer be tolerated. Complaints against another cabal member will be brought to me and a decision will be made in regards to punishments. That starts now." He stopped and looked around the room in case anyone had anything to add. His scowl left little doubt that he was in no mood for nonsense.

Rebecca listened carefully giving Richard the respect he desived. She thought his tone was a bit harsher than required, though she trusted that Richard had his reasons. Without any further reasons she just figured that he wanted to make sure that Simon was paying attention to what changes were being put in to effect.

Rebecca didn't have anything to say, so she just stood there and watched what was going on and listened.

Sat down and started to idly roam thumbs around. This seemed like one of those boring meetings where one person talks a lot. In that regard, his eyes were already glazing over. It wasn't anything to do with respect, it was something that Richard would remember from childhood. Simon just wasn't good when it came to this sort of environment. Too much scowling, not enough doing.

new titles

Richard looked at everyone in turn but no one said anything. "Great next I have titles for everyone. Simon, your are our Hearthmaster and Edgetender. A list of duties for you to keep up with are on this." He handed Simon a small sheet of paper from the pocket sized notepad he carried. "Rebecca you will assist Simon as Edgemaster but you will also be Doorwarden." He handed Rebecca a similar sheet of paper. "Kira, Farseeker" She too was given a sheet of paper.

"Many times your duties will overlap in which case you all can figure out how to handle the situation. I will discuss more about these titles with you all individually? I want Simon and Rebecca to work on a clear creed for this cabal. We all have our individual goals for being here but this cabal need to have a clear goal. When you are done give it to Kira to sign off on and then to me. Kira, you are in charge of creating a sigil for us. Again, make sure the others approve and then bring it to me. Any Questions?"

Looked at it for a few moments. "Seems a lot like what I've already been doing. That's cool, Just let me know of small adjustments you want ta make Bro." stated, before stuffing the paper into his pocket. It seemed to Simon that the only reason he was Edgetender was to keep an eye on Rebecca. That fit in with the Story that he was thusly told before. Steepled fingertips moved to press together, smiling and simply waiting. "What's your title?"
