The past few months had seen Astra's life return to a semblance of normalcy. With the exception that the Bully Brothers had been Expelled for their behavior. More than that, the Zero Tolerance Policy saw them sent to the Academy at Starlight, the Jedi's Maximum Security Prison.
For Sol however, he did violate the rules. He was punished with six months of extra duty in the Kitchen. Which meant more time for Astra to get to know the new kid.
He was goofy, with a sense of humor that always brought a smile to everyone's face. He had this way of knowing what to say to cheer his fellow Students and cadets up.
And that was it, he was a Cadet, and Astra was a Student at the Academy. In the past, she never really put much thought to the Noble kids who are called Cadets compared to everyone else who were called Students.
While they shared some classes, the two worlds rally ever crossed. Which made Sol's punishment a pleasant surprise.
Unlike other days, it was Astra who noticed he was down. She found him after the dinner clean up, in the back supply closet with a deep frown on his face.

"Sol? Whats wrong" astra asked.

He frowned, "because I am under punishment, I can't take part in the Gladius." His voice reflected his sad mood and the disappointment in his eyes.

Astra blinked and looked at him confused " What is the Gladius?" she asked

He looked at her with a bit of disbelief on his face. However soon that gave way to a slight smile, "I guess for you guys," he tried to be kind in how he worded it. "It wouldn't be that wide known," he explained.
"So the legacy families, I don't know, about five hundred years ago set up this, um, competition for cadets across the Academies."
He gave a short laugh, "truthfully, I think it all started with a rivalry between three families." He took a moment to compose himself before continuing. "Each year during the Life Day Celebration, the Cadets across the entire Galaxy meet on a host world to show off their mastery over their skills, the Force, and most importantly, dueling."
"The Krishan Sisters are the favorites to beat in their classas Duelists. Since the Shribeh were allowed to compete, they have ruled their class and the Krishan sisters are making their debut this year."
He looked down, "it's the reason why I came to this Academy. The Grand Master is the Master of Form Two. And I want to learn from him."

" I mean you could have been expelled did you tell the high Master the truth about what happened" She asked . she could see how impotent this was to sole and wanted to help but was not sure what to do yet.

He nodded, "I...well you are right. I could've been expelled. And that would have been far worse. But to challenge and defeat a Shribeh..." his voice trailed off. It was clear he was disappointed and something has been left unsaid.

"To challenge and defeat a Shribeh....?" Astra said trying to get him to finished the sentience. Then shook her head and held out her hand "Come on" she said. she lead him from the store room to Master Maes.
"Master is there any way we can talk to the high Master? You remember the insidint a few months ago I think some one did not tell the truth becouse the one who should be in trouble is me not Sol" She said.

She frowned, "oh I am completely aware of the incident a few months ago. But one doesn't just go see the High Master."
"Sol violated the rules," she said then looked down at the young Astra with a stern face, "rules are in place for a reason. Or are you saying that the rules shouldn't apply to everyone?"

" No but the reason why he broke the Rules should mater. That day i started the fight knowing if I got caught I would get hurt. but they were picking on Roza. I throw rocks at them to get there attention. I did get cough and if Sol had not come to help me I would have been hurt a lot more. Sol saved me from those boys knowing he would get into trouble. he should not be in trouble for doing what a Jedi is sappose to do" Astra said.

She dropped down to her knee and spoke softly, "Astra, I know it might not seem fair now. But there are times when we have to break the rules for the right reasons."
She smiled as she spoke fondly, "I am sure what you say is true. But the official record is something different. And should you challenge that record, you, yourself could be found guilty in this nasty situation. The same way, Sol was. And face punishment like he has."
She held out one hand, "Sol broke the rules. This will not change regardless of what you say. But if you continue to run along and try to get someone to listen to your version of the events, not only Sol will be punished, but so will you."
She motioned to Sol, "now, I don't know this young man well. But I am willing to bet that his actions and keeping your version from the official record is to protect you from punishment."
She looked to Astra, "do you understand?"

Astra shook her head. " but because he protected me he can't participate in the Gladius. If he had not protected me from my own stupid mistakes he would still be able to participate. It's important to him identify there anything that can be done? " Astra said.

She rose up to her full height, "Astra Korraay, you say many times you want to be a Jedi. Is this still true now?"

"Yes Master" she said.

She nodded her head, "and what are the five fundamentals of being a Jedi." She paused and held up a finger, "in order of importance."

Astra blinked and looked at the Master. "umm... Justice,Compaction, Duty and Sacrifice" she said hesitantly. she was definitely guessing.

She frowned, "The fundamentals are what allows a Jedi to stand out from everyone else." She turned to Sol, "Cadet Kenobi, what are the Fundamentals of the Jedi."
Sol snapped to attention as if something in his head had been triggered, "The Five Fundamentals of the Jedi are." He took a breath, "Duty, we Jedi embrace our role in the galaxy as the Light Bringers. Sacrifice, we accept that this requires personal sacrifice so that all others may live in the light. Compassion, it is only through our compassion that we can serve the light. Honor, In all things, we Jedi must act with honor and bring honor to the Order. Justice, The single goal of the Jedi is to bridge all of these Fundamentals with truth and Justice so that order can be served."
She smiled and looked at Astra, "you see young Korraay, Justice is at the heart of all that we do." She smiled, "and there are times when Justice can be tempered by Compassion." She started to turn then paused as she looked back at the pair. "I was asked by the High Master for three volunteers to join the trip to Olavan and support our cadets attending this years Gladius. The role is difficult. You will be required to cook, clean and ensure that our Cadets can focus on the competition. Would you, your roommate, and Cadet Sol like to volunteer?"

Astras eyes lite up. She looked at Sol almost as if judging his reaction. " Yes please Master" Astra said.

Sol had an uneasy look on his face. As if, not sure this was a good idea or not. Finally he reluctantly nodded.
The Headmistress gave a smile, "then I will deliver your names to the High Master. The ship will be departing tomorrow morning. Do not be late." On that she turned and walked away.
